    Reporting to the Sr Manager, Wholesale Accounting, the Sr Accountant, Wholesale Accounting is responsible for all gross margin reporting for Nutrien and collaborating with the Saskatoon office for Nutrien gross margin reporting. Along with understanding key business drivers, this includes a high degree of systems knowledge, understanding the source system transactions, eliminations between entities and segments, and various software programs and how they integrate with each other. This position will also work closely with the Sr Manager, providing mentorship and coaching to other team members, leading initiatives, providing recommendations on process improvements and getting involved in projects resulting from the recent merger.


    Core Responsibilities:

    • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports for gross margin reporting, utilizing Hana, BPC, BW, SAP, Excel and Power Pivot
    • Analyze gross margin results to ensure accuracy
    • Post monthly journal entries for gross margin reporting
    • Act as first point of contact for any questions on Nutrien gross margin results, with a strong understanding of key drivers, the underlying transactional data and complex consolidation concepts around eliminations
    • Recommend improvements to Senior Management around the monthly close process and how the Saskatoon and Calgary office can improve efficiencies
    • Work closely with Customer Service ensuring the accuracy of accrued rebates and price protection
    • Take the lead role in planning and executing post-merger projects and change initiatives with a focus on ensuring the accuracy of data
    • Coordinate all IT related testing with the team for both regular yearly test requirements as well as any testing resulting from projects
    • Ensure SOX compliance and provide recommendations to senior management on developing controls
    • Review tasks completed by other team member and provide coaching, mentorship and feedback
    • Manage ad-hoc and non-routine requests related to gross margin reporting

    Characteristics for Successful Performance:

    • Ability to understand various software programs and independently research data issues
    • Detail oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to embrace change and have a “process improvement” mindset
    • Have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders, tailoring communication to meet the audience
    • Ability to prioritize and manage numerous tasks, projects, stakeholder interests, and deadlines

    Required Professional Qualifications and Education:

    • Accounting designation with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
    • Knowledge of SAP, HANA, BPC and BW is an asset
