    Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Plant Finance, Vanscoy, the Accountant is part of a larger team responsible for the efficient day to day operations of the Accounting Department with major emphasis on: capital budgeting; forecasting and accounting; completion of month end procedures including preparation of journal entries; review of the general and subsidiary ledgers; and analyzing financials and communicating the results with management. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

    Key Tasks:

    • Responsible for capital project accounting, budgeting and forecasting for the Vanscoy site. This includes assisting with preparation of the annual capital budget and monthly forecasts, preparing monthly reports, communicating with other departments and management to obtain information on the status of capital projects and associated cash flows, and maintaining project cost records.
    • Responsible for performing month end duties including reconciling accrual accounts in the general ledger, performing cut-off, and preparing journal entries.
    • Acting as a liaison with other departments to assist with financial analysis and communications on accounting policy and procedures.
    • Reviewing the general and subsidiary ledgers, on a monthly basis, to ensure accounting procedures are followed, making adjusting entries when needed.
    • Assisting the Senior Accountant with cost forecasting, analysis and budget preparation.
    • Assisting with maintaining the fixed asset ledger.

    • A CPA designation
    • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a recognized institution
    • A minimum of 3 years accounting experience preferred
    • Strong computer (MS Office – Excel) skills
    • SAP experience is considered an asset
