    The Senior Chemical Engineer reports to the Project Engineering Manager and plays a key role in generating sound projects that yield improvements in energy efficiency, production and reliability. The position is responsible for providing technical and project management services, working with multi-disciplinary teams, for the successful execution of the site’s Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) projects. The  also provides project assurance in the areas of safety, cost control, schedule control, quality control in engineering design and construction, operability, document control, and end-user training.


    Key Tasks:

    • Thorough knowledge of plant processes with the aim of identifying improvement initiatives that can be developed through capital expenditure projects
    • Utilize process simulation software to generate models of the operating plants
    • Propose, develop and execute capital projects to implement identified improvements in efficiency, reliability and production.
    • Execute engineering studies internally or through the use of the Request for Engineering (REF) facility to take projects through the feasibility and front end stages as required
    • Effectively manage a portfolio of capital projects utilizing project management best practices and adhering to the corporation’s project management guidelines (CAPMAP):
    • Carry out all project Stage Gate progression and Financial Approval activities required as part of the Project Management Procedures
    • Monitor and update project performance against the plan, update forecasts and implement Change Control as required to address any performance issues
    • Address Process Safety Management (PSM), Safety and Environmental considerations in all aspects of capital project development



    Project Management Skills

    • Able to effectively lead and manage multiple projects
    • Apply project management tools and techniques in execution of projects

    Technical Skills

    • Able to evaluate engineering designs
    • Able to develop technical specifications and scope documents

    Communication Skills

    • Able to provide direction and guide project teams as required including establishing project objectives and resolving issues
    • Able to manage and lead contractors and technology providers
    • Able to routinely seek input, feedback and approval from stakeholders
    • Able to effectively write reports, project scope documents, meeting minutes

    Financial Skills

    • Possess understanding of economic and financial terms
    • Able to perform economic evaluations for projects
    • Able to prepare detailed project cost estimates, schedules and forecasts

    Essential Qualifications:

    • BSc Chemical Engineering - 7+ years of experience
    • Post Graduate Project Management is an asset
    • Experience performing Aspen Simulations
