    The Safety Manager reports to the General Manager.

     

    Key Tasks:

    • Responsible for the overall effective management of the Safety Department and for providing leadership and directing the overall safety strategy for the Site

    • Manages the Site's safety program and provides the site with safety statistics reporting to ensure compliance which meets or exceeds the standards and regulations
    • Works in a variety of areas including safety coordination; risk assessments and safety investigations/audits; safety training; safety policies, procedures, and manuals; safety reporting; and supervision of the Safety Department, Occupational Health Center and Security Services.

    • Demonstrates a working knowledge and understands the application of OH&S Regulations and Mine Regulations, including the classification of occupational injuries and illnesses and management of safety statistics

    • Must be familiar with and demonstrate knowledge in the external regulations and standards such as NFPA, OSHA, and ANSI
    • Must have the ability to assess the health of the entire safety program and make recommendations to management for continuous improvement
    • Intimate working knowledge of Nutrien safety programs and policies/procedures is necessary
    • Ensure the successful execution of both Mine Rescue and Surface Emergency Response programs

    Skills:

    • Experience working in a potash mining environment is preferred

    • Competent in writing policies, procedures, programs and standards, including the revision and approval processes

    • Experience with incident investigations and competent in the facilitation of root cause analysis, preferably TapRoot
    • Ability to lead effective audits and deliver effective training, coaching and mentoring

    • Superior interpersonal, teamwork, communication and writing skills are essential

    • Demonstrate positive safety behaviour and safety leadership
    • Superior computer skills are required, including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
    • Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently
    • Willingness to learn and gain adequate knowledge and experience through training

    Qualifications:

    • Must have at least 6 years of supervisory experience in an industrial setting, preferably in potash mining

    • Attainment of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation/accreditation is highly desired

    • Preference will be given to individuals who have internationally recognized professional/academic qualifications in any of the following: engineering, occupational/industrial health and safety, risk management, or fire protection
