    Hourly position, no direct reports.

    Reports to Department Supervisor.

    Key Tasks:

    The Instrument/Electrical Maintenance Department is in constant contact with other departments and requires the Electrician to possess the ability to talk and give instructions to others while focusing on the primary task of maintenance and repair activities. An incumbent for the Electrician position:

    • Adheres to plant safety program and environmental program administration.

    • Manages daily maintenance tasks as assigned general and routine plant functions.

    • Assists in daily maintenance goals.

    • Completes work orders assigned by Maintenance Supervisor along with completion of requisitions.

    • Maintains all mechanical equipment.

    • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical equipment.

    • Troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic systems.

    • Conducts frequent housekeeping and safety inspections.

    • Fills in as lead in the Maintenance Supervisor’s absence if asked.

    • Develops and implements standard operating procedures and systems consistent with safety, quality, cost, and environmental standards.

    • Rebuilds and repairs mechanical equipment such as gearboxes, pumps, rotary feeders, grinding mills, etc.

    • Reviews and participates in accident/injury investigation and corrective action.

    • Is responsible for proper operation and maintenance of boiler and pressure vessels.

    • Runs conduit and pull wire.

    • Designs basic electrical and control switches.

    • Properly installs new electrical equipment. 

    • Is responsible for trouble-shooting and repairing all electrical and control circuits.

    • Is responsible for welding and oxygen/acetylene use.

    • Fabricates parts.

    • Replaces and aligns bearings/seals.

    • Coordinates maintenance work with production schedule to ensure plant is able to run when needed.

    • Is on-call for plant break downs and emergencies.

    • Cross trains with the operators in the Feed Ingredients Manufacturing Plant to help run the plant, bag product, load/unload trucks/railcars and keep operations running.

    • Is responsible for work outcomes of the assigned area.

    • Has the ability to handle conflict situations (may be needed when dealing with production concerns).
    • Possesses a quick reaction time and creative thinking skills are requirements on-the-job.
    • Has a singular focus for getting the job completed during upset conditions.  
    • Maintains constant attention to details during the daily production process, and may require immediate action to prevent or avoid production losses, as well as, loss of life or environmental upsets from electrical components that malfunction.
    • Is responsible for maintaining, replacing and performing diagnosis of all instrument/electrical components in and around the Nutrien Chemical Processing and Mining area--this includes monitoring equipment systems to ensure components are fully operational and working to optimal capacity. These activities are essential to cost-effective operations and require strict attention-to-detail s o meet the expectations of its internal and external customers.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • overseeing and directing the support personnel’s daily activities,
    • managing the PSM reporting, conducting periodic inspections,
    • maintaining, and operating equipment and systems in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for the purpose of processing the highest quality products at all times.

    Skills:

    • The Electrician position requires an individual to demonstrate reliability, responsiveness, and dependability.
    • It also requires being careful about details and thorough in completing work tasks.
    • An essential characteristic for the Electrician is cooperation, working well with others on-the-job by possessing a positive attitude and strong leadership skills.
    • The job requires systematic procedural discipline, following a predetermined course of action for doing things, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, and developing a team atmosphere to get things done.
    • Initiative is an important work style, and requires a willingness to take on responsibilities, and challenges without being asked.
    • Adaptability and flexibility are required due to the many changes throughout the day.

     

    Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma.
    • Relevant vocational training and/or successful completion of apprenticeship as an Electrician.
    • Proven experience as an Electrician.
    • Experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical systems.
    • Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (i.e., wire strippers, voltmeter, etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints.
    • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations/guidelines. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Must pass a pre-employment exam and drug screening.
    • The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) testing is required for all hourly applicants of Nutrien. Applicants must complete this test and meet a minimum of 5 in Reading, 5 on Applied Math and 4 on Locating Information in order to be considered eligible for employment with Nutrien
